The Purrs and Cons of a Playpen for First Time Cat Owners

When I brought home my 5-month-old kitten, Kiku, I wanted a safe and cozy way to help her adjust to her new home. After some research, I found the VCEPJH Portable, Collapsible Pet Playpen — and it’s been a game-changer for those early weeks of kitten parenthood.

Why I Bought It

I needed something compact yet functional to keep Kiku comfortable while she got used to her new surroundings. The goal was simple: give her a secure space that could fit in my small bedroom and be portable for travel or visits to my partner’s place.

What I Loved

Perfect Size for Small Spaces – Easily fit her bed, litter box, small scratching post, and food/water bowls.

Durable Build – Kiku never scratched through the netting or managed an escape attempt.

Great for Nighttime – Helped her understand bedtime routines and reduced nighttime chaos.

Portable for Travel – Super convenient for visits to my partner’s home.

Great for Pet Introductions – Allowed safe separation between Kiku and our elderly cat during the adjustment period.

Easy Storage – Collapses neatly when not in use.

What Could Be Better

Setup & Takedown – Lots of poles to deal with, so it wasn’t my favorite part of the experience.

Limited Lifespan for Growing Kittens – We used it for a few months until she outgrew it, but that’s expected.

That said, the assembly isn’t difficult, just a bit tedious.

Price & Value

Price: $34.99

Was It Worth It? Absolutely. It met my exact needs at the time and still comes in handy for future situations — like travel, pet-sitting, or keeping Kiku separated from certain areas. I could even see using it for a fun beach day with her.

Would I Recommend It?

Yes – especially for new kitten or small pet owners.

Kiku’s Verdict

Kiku-approved! She adapted well to it and seemed comfortable and safe inside.
